It’s just one word...

It’s not sexy…

It’s not the next bright shiny object…

It’s old school…

It’s the kind of thing that sounds boring and tedious.

And that’s exactly why it works so well.

And even though it’s one of my 4 compass point words for this year, for some reason, I completely dropped the ball.

Vacation is not a great time to have an argument with your spouse.

The real problem was, it was all my fault. I’d slipped back into my old negative self-talk which eventually started coming out of my mouth.

Since mid-January, I’ve been applying a daily mindset hijacking technique.

I learned it from my friend and mentor Ray Edwards.

At Ray’s January mastermind weekend, we went deep into mindset hijacking and I’ve been super consistent and SO MUCH happier… productive… cheerful… grateful… and all around much more pleasant to be around.

During these sessions is when I decided to set this one word as one of my 4 compass points for 2019.

Ray suggested that we set a timer on our phones for every 90 minutes. And when the alarm goes off, we “mind our thinking” and go through the 4 compass points we set.

I got a little over excited and have been setting hourly “mind your thinking” timers.

It’s worked like a charm.

But for some reason, as soon as we boarded the plane to Maui a week ago today, I STOPPED being consistent with my “mind your thinking” timers. 

And so I stopped practicing the one word of my 4 compass points that really holds them all together.

The one word I’m talking about is…


I stopped being consistently consistent. 

It didn’t happen all at once, but gradually, my negative self-talk returned until I got pretty sour and annoying to be around. 

That’s not a very good recipe for a happy vacation.

Luckily, I mended my ways and back in the saddle. But our excursion to Maui, though it was enjoyable and fun on many levels, would have been A LOT more enjoyable had I been consistent.

So, take learn from my bad example and NEVER stop MINDING YOUR THINKING!
